Virginia Attorney General’s Office Hit by Cyber Attack 2025
Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are investigating a “sophisticated cyberattack” that struck the Richmond offices of Virginia Attorney General Jason S. Miyares on Wednesday.
After learning of the incident, the agency shut down its computer systems; its website was still down Friday morning.
According to the Washington Post, an email late Wednesday afternoon from a chief deputy alerted the agency’s 700 employees that the offices had been the “victim of what appears to be a sophisticated cyberattack.”
A senior official told the Washington Post that officials detected the attack about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. There has been no demand for money from the attacker or attackers, the person said.
Other state agencies appear to have been unaffected.
