Mercury Retrograde in Sagittarius sextile Venus in Aquarius: Sweet Relief + A Mary Oliver poem
In a session with a client this week, as we were talking about Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius, I described this as like playing whac-a-mole with email/the inbox. Like, you send out 10 responses only to get 15 back.
Or you sort out 5 things only to find another 7 awaiting your attention.
I wonder how your brain is right now? Mercury is trying to do a million things at once, perhaps under a sense of false urgency, and this can be tricky for our human brains to manage.
(As a side note, Mercury rx is happening in her monthly profected house and it’s my monthly profected timelord right now, so admittedly we are both a little more personally tied to the current Mercury Rx, in case you personally are having a different experience!)
Technically Mercury has four factors challenging its condition at the moment:
- It’s in detriment
- It’s in a sign-based square to Saturn
- It’s ruled by a planet in detriment (that’d be Jupiter in Gemini)
- It’s retrograde
If your mind could do with some ease or grace, you might enjoy this Mary Oliver poem that I have been reading on repeat:
When I am Among the Trees
Mary Oliver
When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”
My therapist mentioned this poem in a session recently. I have been especially mulling over the part where it says:
“and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine.”
As much as I can I’m using this Mercury retrograde to reflect on what it might mean to go easy. I’m also trying to tune into where and when I personally get that feeling of “such hints of gladness”.
Today, December 12, 2024, as Mercury retrograde forms a sweet sextile with Venus in Aquarius, I offer you this poem, in the hopes that it may offer you some ease or a moment of sweetness.
And if you want more on Mercury Retrograde, I go deep in this recent podcast here.
Let me know how you’re travelling these days.
