What is air fryer fish fillet?

My air fryer fish fillet is one of the simplest recipes using boneless fish fillets that turns out delicious every time! Plus, it is super quick if you have the air fryer handy!

Fish is the most integral part of our daily meals and such recipes save me tons of time and effort when we crave for a tasty as well as healthy fish dish.

All you need is your choice of fish fillet, marinate it with your choice of spices using very little amount of oil and just air fry it for 10 to 12 minutes depending on the thickness of the fillet you are using.

Fish fillet: You can be as creative as you like in terms of choosing the fish fillet for this recipe!

I used basa fillet which is not only easily available as this is a fresh catch fish locally, but also this meaty fish tastes amazing when baked.

I have used basa, which is also called catfish, in many of my earlier recipes that you can check out here!

You can use any meat fish fillet that is boneless for example salmon, cod, haddock. You may or may not remove the skin; it’s absolutely up to you.

5-air fryer fish filletExtra-virgin olive oil: You may wonder why we need oil for air frying!

But for cooking such a large portion of fish, all you need is 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil which is way less than what you would need if you fry the fish traditionally.

Oil helps to soften the fish and also works as an adhesive for the spices. Oil is also the flavor extractor from the spices.

Garlic & onion powder: These aromatics in their powdered form add lovely flavors to the fish. As always I prefer to use powders instead of paste or grated.

That’s simply because freshly grated aromatics tend to burn under the high temperature of the air fryer and no one likes burned (& bitter) garlic!

6Kashmiri red chilli powder: The vibrant red color of my air fryer fish fillet comes from one of our favorite spices and that is Kashmiri red chilli powder.

This mild chilli powder adds a subtle flavor without adding too much heat. But its job primarily is to make your air fryer fish fillet look more tempting than ever!

Turmeric powder: We Indians add turmeric in almost everything! I am sure you already know how healthy turmeric is for us!

So I keep finding ways of incorporating this genius spice into our foods! For best absorption of curcumin from turmeric powder, always pair black pepper powder with turmeric.

7Dried basil: Herbs are the best and easiest way to add tons of flavors into your dishes.

Basil being one of my preferred flavors, it was an easy choice for me to add in my recipe of air fryer fish fillet and not surprisingly this turned out to be just outstanding!

Salt & Pepper: Season your fish fillet with salt to taste and freshly crushed black pepper. Don’t be too generous with salt as it may become too salty.

8How to make air fryer fish fillet?

Step 1: Wash and pat dry your fish fillet. Then take it on a plate and drizzle half of the olive oil on one side. Brush the oil all over the filet.

Step 2: Then flip the fillet over and drizzle remaining oil on the top. Brush the oil again all over the fillet.

Step 3: Now drizzle half of each of the spices one by one on one side of the fillet – garlic powder, onion powder, Kashmiri chilli powder, turmeric powder, dried basil, salt and pepper.

Step 4: Brush all the spices nicely over the fish fillet. You can also use your hand to evenly mix the spices and spread them all over the fillet so that it is thoroughly coated.

9-air fryer fish filletStep 5: Now flip the fish fillet over again and drizzle the remaining half of all the spices on top. Repeat the process of coating the fillet with spices using your hand.

Step 6: Once the fish fillet is completely & nicely marinated with the spices, set it aside for 10 minutes so that the fish can absorb all the flavors.

Step 7: When you are ready to air fry your fish fillet, brush the bottom of the fryer basket with little oil; this will prevent sticking of the fish.

Step 8: Preheat your air fryer at 190 C and set the timer for 10 minutes.

Step 9: Place the marinated fish fillet in the preheated air fryer basket and start airfrying it.

1-air fryer fish filletStep 10: At halfway through cooking time, pull out the air fryer basket and gently flip the fish fillet over.

Pro tip: Your fish fillet would have become very soft and delicate; so use a very light & gentle hand to flip it over. Otherwise it may fall apart.

Step 11: Continue air frying the fillet for the remaining time.

Step 12: And your juicy, succulent and delicious air fryer fish fillet is done! Serve it up with some side of salad and enjoy!
