Day 2 Of National School Games: Punjab Players Clinch 4 Golds In Karate, 3 In Judo | Ludhiana News
Ludhiana: On the second day of the 67th National School Games being organised by the school education department at Punjab Agricultural University here, Punjab clinched four gold in karate and 3 in judo competition. The day witnessed thrilling matches in football, judo and karate.

During the bridge matches of U-19 girls’ category, a fierce competition was witnessed between Punjab and Bihar.Punjab won by 2-0, with 2 goals scored by Jobanpreet Kaur. Besides, Maharashtra defeated CISCE by 3-0, Tamil Nadu defeated ICSO with a score of 7-1 and Maharashtra defeated Chhattisgarh with 2-0. In the U-19 girls’ football matches held at PAU ground 2, CBSE Delhi beat Vidya Bharti with a score of 9-0, Jharkhand defeated Kerala 3-1, Delhi won over IPSC with 1-0 and Gujarat claimed victory over Vidya Bharti with a score of 24-0. Haryana defeated Chandigarh 3-1 during the pool matches at the PAU Stadium. Andhra Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir tied 1-1. ICSCE defeated Telangana by 7-0, West Bengal defeated CBMC 6-1.
Punjab shines bright
As many as six karate competitions (U-19) were held on Sunday, including three under boys’ category and three under girls’ category. For boys, the matches were held under three categories including, U-35kg, U-50kg and U-58kg while for girls, they were held under the U-52kg, U-60kg and over 68kg categories. The Punjab team bagged four gold medals in the U-35 and U-58kg boys’ categories and the U-52 and U-60 kg girls’ category. Punjab has also one silver in under 50 kg. In the under 35 kg boys, Abhi Kumar Shastri from Punjab won the gold medal by defeating Delhi’s Hemant Kumar Kashyap. Suraj Debanath of Assam and Hemant Kumar Kashyap from Delhi shared second position. The third place was won by Manveer Singh Sodhi of CISCE.
In U-58kg, Punjab’s Kunal clinched the gold, Arman of Haryana bagged the silver while Shubham of CBSE and Nikhil Rajput of Delhi shared the bronze medal. In U- 50kg boys’ category, Prashant Singh of UP stood first, followed by Karan Kanozia of Punjab. The third position was shared by Pawan Jangid of Rajasthan and Lavya of Delhi. In U- 52 kg girls’ category, Nisha of Punjab defeated Jasmeen of Haryana. The former bagged the gold while the latter secured the silver. Sweta Hazarika from Assam and Tanu Parmar of Madhya Pradesh shared the bronze.
In U-60kg girls’, Anshika Bhardwaj of Punjab defeated Assam’s Angkita Rajbongshi to win the gold. While Angkita stood second, Ayushi Tomar of Haryana and Dimple Saini of Delhi stood third.
Meanwhile, a total of four judo competitions (U-17) were held here on Sunday, including two under the boys’ category and two under the girls’ category. Punjab team clinched a gold medal each in the U-40kg and U-45kg boys’ and over 70kg girls’ category.
In boys’ U-40kg, Sahil from Punjab bagged the first spot, Delhi’s Raj stood second and Praveen Kumar of Telangana and Anand Yadav of Uttar Pradesh stood third. In boys’ U-45kg, Raghu Mehra of Punjab stood first, Kipa Chingpa of Arunachal Pradesh stood second while Maneesh Tokas of Vidya Bharati and Viraj Patel stood third.
In over 70kg girls’ category, Kanwarpreet Kaur of Punjab bagged gold, Divanshi Miglani of Chandigarh clinched silver and Mamta Mali of Rajasthan and Nirjal of Himachal Pradesh shared bronze. In U-44kg girls’ category, Garima of Haryana bagged the first spot, Samita of West Bengal secured the second spot while Ankita of Himachal Pradesh and Silky Chanu of Manipur shared the third spot.
