Coimbatore: A week after a mugger crocodile was first spotted in a check dam near Sirumugai here, efforts by the forest department to capture the crocodile have gone astray.

With support from the Chikkadasampalayam village panchayat and farmers, the forest department pumped out water from the check dam for two days on January 4 and 5.However, despite pumping out the water for two days, officials were not able to find the crocodile.
Range officer Manoj said, “Water has kept increasing in the check dam due to heavy rain in Mothepalayam and surrounding areas. So we suspect the mugger might have moved to agricultural lands. Our teams are searching nearby wells and ponds to trace the crocodile.”

Digvijaya writes to CM Yadav for Tawa dam water use
Digvijaya Singh urges CM Yadav to close water flow in canals of Tawa dam in March and organize Kisan Pathshalas to spread awareness. This will benefit farmers in Narmadapuram by allowing a good crop of summer moong. Tawa dam irrigates 3.5 lakh hectare land directly and even larger area indirectly. By maintaining lower water flow, farmers can sow summer moong after rabi crops, reducing weather impact and ensuring optimal water use. Singh requests CM Yadav to issue directives for officials to benefit farmers.
