Ahmedabad: City crime branch sleuths on Sunday evening arrested six men with three country-made pistols and 18 cartridges. The police said they were allegedly preparing to commit a dacoity near the Paldi museum bus stand.
According to the crime branch officers, they received intelligence during a patrol that six men were planning to commit dacoity at a jewellery shop and were armed.Acting on the tip-off, a dozen crime branch cops went to the Paldi museum where they spotted the six men. Police said each man was caught by two cops and they were frisked thoroughly. The police found three countrymade pistols, 18 cartridges and tools such as cutters and screwdrivers.
According to the FIR filed with the detection of the crime branch (DCB), the six men were Shahid Ali Pathan, 50, from Budaun in Uttar Pradesh and Rajender Singh Jatav, 50; Lekhraj Roshan Singh Yadav, 50; Satram Yadav, 58; Lekhraj Sonpal Yadav, 50, and Ravi Fakeer, 25; all from Moradabad in UP.
Crime branch cops said the accused confessed in the presence of panch witnesses that they were carrying out a recce of jewellery shops in the city to commit dacoity.
The FIR said police recovered items worth Rs 74,200 from the accused. Crime branch filed a complaint under IPC Sections 399 (making preparation to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for the purpose of committing dacoity) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) along with charges under the Arms Act and Gujarat Police Act.
