Chinese Manja Sellers: Chinese Manja Sellers Use Digital Code & Kid Couriers To Skirt Police Ambush | Nagpur News
NAGPUR: Chinese manja sellers are trying to sell the banned killer thread under coded names on digital platforms to dodge police. Senior officials tracking the ‘manja’ mafia’s online footprint say the consignment is couched in codes with misleading descriptions and marked by ambiguous marketing tactics to lure customers.
After the deal is struck, ‘manja’ sellers are deploying kids at delivery points to spot cops and warn clients to back off till they get a green signal.A senior police official said the ploy to dispatch kids to recce, send alerts on a probable cop ambush or spurn doubtful buyers, is an alarming trend.
Sources said policemen in disguise were often foxed by these kid couriers while laying a trap to nab nylon manja sellers. Khaki watchers were surprised to see minors surveying delivery points and nixing suspicious deals.
City police chief Amitesh Kumar, who has issued an order under Criminal procedure code (CrPC) 144, is monitoring ‘cyber patrol’ for nylon manja sellers. DCP, (cyber), Archit Chandak is supervising the mission.
Chandak said stringent action would be taken against the ‘manja’ supply chain, right from manufacturers, distributors, stockists, sellers and buyers as per provisions of CrPC 144 based on orders of the high court and National Green Tribunal. “Two officers and six personnel are monitoring cyber platforms round-the-clock to keep a tab on sellers or distributors. The nylon manja mafia is using different names and adopting varied styles, but we are cracking their codes,” said Chandak, adding more than eight cases have been registered and nylon manja and other equipment of more than ₹3 lakh were seized. “We are proactively chasing sellers and stockists with different policing tactics,” he said.
Chandak also said, citizens should alert police on 112 hotline on sale or use of nylon manja. Last year, police registered more than 140 cases, seized material of more than ₹62 lakh and booked 188 persons.
Chandak also said e-commerce portals have been notified against allowing their platforms for overt or covert sale of nylon manja. “Meetings with representatives of online portals, e-commerce companies have been constituted at the commissionerate. We warned portals against violations,” said Chandak.
