Transporters oppose law in hit & run cases
Protests by drivers and transporters in Patna and several other districts of Bihar against a new law that imposes heavy penalties in hit and run cases caused traffic disruptions. The law requires drivers to stop at the accident site and admit the victim to the hospital or face imprisonment and fines. The drivers argue that this puts their lives at risk and may lead to a scarcity of drivers in the profession. Effigies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah were burnt in Motihari as part of the protests.
