Surat: Except for the moped that the police had recovered, there has been further leads in the Rs 88 lakh cash loot carried out on Friday.
From the traditional diamond trading hub, Mahidharpura police are yet to get any clues while only the moped of the loot victim was found near a hotel in from Kamrej.
Sources informed that police detained a suspect for questioning but officials from the Detection of Crime Branch claimed that they do not have any leads.Multiple police teams are working to crack the case and are sent to examine CCTV footage of adjoining districts of Navsari and Bharuch to locate movement of suspicious vehicles.
The modus operandi of the loot has puzzled the police — how one person forced the victim Nawaz Fatta to drive his moped up to Laskana area, and later escape with the cash and moped.
The accused threatened that he is carrying a gun and asked the victim to take the moped as he directed.
From the CCTV footage, it is visible that the robber had covered his entire upper body. In the afternoon he was wearing a jacket, covered face with a mask, glasses on his eyes and wearing black hand glows.
This even as the accused kept his bald head open! It surprised the cops why the accused did not cover his head. Police are not sure if the accused had covered his head and upper face with a mask or a wig.
The robber arrived in the Mahidharpura area in an autorickshaw, which the police tracing the rickshaw as well. “Till we get some concrete leads, we are unable to share details. Police will crack the case soon since our teams are working on it,” said a police officer.
Police are also investigating the role of some known person who may have been aware that Fatta was carrying a big amount.
Fatta collected the cash from D Pravin Kumar and was on his moped when the accused approached. Fatta went to collect the cash as per instruction from his employer Mansur Memon, a property businessman. Memon told the police that he borrowed the amount from a known person.
